Advantages Of Split Taper Bushes:

Split tapered bushes have several advantages over straight-bore pulleys.  First, the split bushing that fits snugly against the shaft avoids the problems caused by straight-bore pulleys.  For example, shafts of different diameters can easily wear out if the pulleys are too tight.  The difference in shaft diameter is also more pronounced at 4 inches from the center of the shaft.
